When your backyard flock is in full production, you may find yourself with more eggs than you can use. Instead of giving them all away, try these traditional preservation methods that have stood the test of time.
Water Glassing
Water glassing uses sodium silicate to seal the pores of the eggshell, preventing air from entering and bacteria from growing. Eggs preserved this way can last up to a year!
Oil Coating
Coating eggs with mineral oil or another food-safe oil seals the pores in the eggshell, much like water glassing. This method is simple and effective for medium-term storage.
